The Elkhorn River, located on the southern edge of Wisner and bordering the Wisner River Park, has helped to make the area an excellent place for hunting and fishing.  Pheasant, quail, duck, geese, deer, dove and coyote all make the Elkhorn River area an abundant hunting area.

The Pilger Recreation Area, located 1 mile north and east of Pilger, is a recreation area and dam project managed by the Lower Elkhorn Natural Resource District.  The Pilger Recreation area has several picnic shelters for public use as well as fishing and boating opportunities on the lake.

Indian Trail Country Club and Restaurant is located two miles south of Beemer.  Indian Trails Country Club is an 18-hole, grass green golf course with challenging holes overlooking the Elkhorn River Valley.  The Indian Trails Restaurant and Lounge is open every night of the week, with the exception of Monday and is open for Sunday brunch.  Indian Trails is open to the public.

Annual Events

The Wisner Junior Livestock Show and Lions Club Rodeo is held every summer during the second weekend in July.  The events are held at the Wisner River park and include a tractor pull, baseball tournament, youth animal shows, road rally, a meat cook-off and several outdoor bands.  For information about the Wisner Junior Livestock Show and Lions Club Rodeo, contact Adam and Tiffany Ott.

Being an Irish community, Saint Patrick's Day is also made into an annual event.  The Wisner Chamber of Commerce is organizing this year's celebration.  Slated events include a Leprechaun Fun Run, Corned Beef and Cabbage Dinner, Gaelic Frolics (hosted by Elkhorn Valley Arts Unlimited), and a parade.  The day-long event will hopefully bring the Blarney Stone back to Wisner and re-enter Wisner in the race for the title of Nebraska's Irish Capital!

Community Organizations

Small communities are notorious for the amount of community support and volunteerism that exists.  A host of community organization exist in the community.  Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts and 4-H clubs teach and enrich the lives of the youth in the community.

The Wisner Senior Citizens Center provides daily recreational activities, noon and evening meals, and a Meals on Wheels program.  The center has a full time staff to meet the needs of the older population of the community

Wisner Community Arts and Recreation is a nonprofit organization dedicated to providing new opportunities for the arts and recreation in Wisner.  Included within this organization are the Recreation committee who oversees the summer youth sports programs; Elkhorn Valley Arts Unlimited, an organization bringing art and culture to the communities of Wisner, Pilger and Beemer; and the Wisner Heritage Museum Society which collects and preserves our past history for future generations.
